"Locked on Sports"

There are too few good sports columns out there. Many (like mine) consist of inane lists that require little thought or insight. One of the few good ones is "Locked on Sports," by David Locke. He has a talk show weeknights from 7-10pm on Sports Radio 950 KJR-AM in Seattle.

I've only listened to his radio show a handful of times, but I read his column in the Seattle PI every Wednesday. In today's column he does a review of his predictions from the last year. In it he mentions his missteps, (predicting the Sonics would win 20-40 games; they won 52 games and the division) and his truest of statements.
__________
"With that said, there were two things I wrote that I know are right. Bud Selig needs to resign and Notre Dame sold its soul for wins."
__________
Steroids are a serious problem and if anyone watched Sen. McCain on the news, you know Congress is going to force baseball's hand.

ND recently gave Charlie Weiss a 10 year contract after beating... nobody. Willingham (I'm glad UW got him) had 8 straight wins against tough teams and he got the boot after three years. Weiss is winning with Willingham's players but he (CW) is getting all the credit. I just hope that race wasn't an issue.

I don't always agree, but I listen to DL almost everyday. he often talks about his column, which I enjoy.

Enough with the Weiss/Willingham contract argument. Willingham lost to USC three times by 31 points each. The 8-0 start was a result of a barely breathing offense, and an opportunistic defense. They won their first two games without scoring an offensive touchdown.

Please see http://bluegraysky.blogspot.com for further analysis on why Weiss is better for ND than Willingham. If you had any idea how much time Ty spent on the golf course, your opinion might change.

As they say, a win is a win is a win...

Boy, all BloggerJake has to do is knock on Notre Dame and Capitán Anónimo comes a-callin. Anything to bring you back, my friend!

I have remained an anti-Notre Dame fan for most of my life, so I was happy to see them shoot themselves in the foot, well as far as the public eye is concerned, and offer Weiss such an absurdley high salary. What pisses me off more than anyhting is how Notre Dame seem to start every season somehow ranked in the top 25, or 15 for that matter, and then drop out. I give them credit for a decent season thus far, but look forward to and expect they will be blown out in whatever bowl game they play in. In the flawed BCS system you need to start every pre-season ranked high if you expect to make it to a BCS championship game. Just because Notre Dame started the game of competitive college football a 100 years ago does not mean they belong in the top 25 year in year out. And why don't they join a conference like the
ACC or Big 10 for some real competition? Teams like USC of course have earned the position of a #1 start and the same can be argued for Texas, but other teams have an almost impossible task of making that far. Utah, as much as i love them, got screwed last year. Playoff is the only answer. Notre Dame are a bumch of biggots and have "sold there soul" indeed. Told you Southridge would lose Jake.
